De Meerse Hoppers

Dutch Folk Dance Group De Meerse Hoppers is a folk dance
group, performing in the Netherlands as well as abroad.
In the past years we visited several Folk Festivals, as you can read in our topmenu, selection “Festivals”.
The name “De Meerse Hoppers” is chosen because we have our home base in the “Haarlemmermeer”, a former lake which has been reclaimed.
The word “Hopper” refers to the hop, a dance figure and the hopper in our emblem.
Dutch folklore has a vast variety of styles, as mazurka’s, waltzes, polka’s, even the English “Hornpipe” is part of the repertoire as Dutch “Horlepiep”.

IMG_0012testWe wear authentic costumes from Volendam, Marken, Urk and Bunschoten.
The costumes are a mixture of traditional daywear and “Sundays Best”.

Within the dance group there is a lot of knowledge about the various costumes and their history.

foto2Enthousiasm, combined with a variety of music, dance and colourful costumes, makes a performance of “De Meerse Hoppers” something to remember.
